VERO BEACH, FL (February 20, 2026) - National Public Schools Week, celebrated February 23 through 27, 2026, highlights the extraordinary learning, innovation, and opportunity taking place across the School District of Indian River County and public-school systems throughout Florida. With 85 percent of Florida families choosing public schools and public charter schools to educate their children, public education continues to be the clear choice for preparing students for success in college, careers, and civic life.
Today, a high school diploma represents far more than graduation. It reflects real-world preparation, industry credentials, college credit, and future readiness. Public schools provide unmatched access to personalized pathways that meet students where they are and help them reach their full potential while strengthening local and state workforce pipelines. From inspiring instruction to meaningful relationships, classrooms are where students discover passions, develop confidence, and build the foundation for lifelong success.
In Indian River County, that promise is delivered daily through rigorous academic programs, acceleration opportunities, innovative Career and Technical Education aligned to workforce needs, robust extracurricular experiences, comprehensive student supports, and strong partnerships with local businesses, higher education institutions, and community organizations.
The District is also celebrating new achievements in college and career readiness. Recently released data from the Florida Department of Education shows continued growth in High School College and Career Acceleration outcomes for the Class of 2025. This measure reflects the percentage of graduates earning college or career acceleration before graduation through Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate success, dual enrollment coursework, industry certifications, and other advanced opportunities.
Districtwide acceleration increased from 82 percent to 85 percent of graduates. Sebastian River High School accelerated 91 percent of graduates, up from 88 percent the previous year, while Vero Beach High School increased to 87 percent, rising from 81 percent.
“These results reflect the intentional work happening in our classrooms every day to ensure students graduate with momentum and opportunity,” said Dr. David K. Moore, Superintendent of Schools. “Our teachers and educators are not only preparing students for the next step. They are opening doors to college credit, career credentials, and futures filled with possibility. National Public Schools Week is a celebration of that impact and the transformational power of public education.”
As the district continues to expand acceleration pathways, career programs, and student supports, leaders remain focused on ensuring every student graduates prepared for success in an evolving global economy.
